Wind, Waves, Wijk

Checked out a couple of weathersites & webcams this morning to help decide where to go windsurfing today. With wind only in the morning I didn't have all day (I thought). So I had to make up my mind fast. Originally I wanted to drive to Scheveningen. But the webcam showed side-offshore wind. And so far nobody on the water. So I switched destinations rapidly. It was going to be Wijk aan Zee instead.

When I arrived at the beach I was surprised how much wind there actually was. It looked like I was going to have my hands full on my 4.7. Instead of wind going down it kept blowing and blowing. My smile was getting bigger and bigger by the minute.

The biggest surprise however was the size of the waves rolling in. Early in the morning I read at Surfweer.nl: waves not too high, not much power. Nice for people who are thinking of starting surfing this season. So I was prepared for a mellow session. But when I hit the water waves turned out to be between 1,5-2 meters. For a while they even came in in really nice lines. Maybe not good for surfing? I don't know. But for sure perfect for windsurfing! What a nice unexpected day...
