...and then came Bill. Or at least what's left of him after crossing the ocean all the way from the US. After weeks of high temperatures and hardly any wind it is finally rocking. We went out with 3.6 and 4.1 flying over the lake at Oostvoornse meer. Checked out the Maasvlakte to see what it looks like over there. Have been sailing for almost twentyfive years now, but never been at this spot. Funny. Although they are building the second Maasvlakte at the moment there is still enough space to hit the water. Must say it looked really nice. Maybe I am going to try out this place soon.
Let's see what Bill has got in store for us next couple of days :-)

My first SUP

I confess. I am hooked.

Tried out Stand Up Paddle in Scheveningen. The first half hour it felt like I was learning how to windsurf all over again. Fell in about every 2-3 seconds. Stand Up Paddle is all about finding balance. Which is not easy when the sea isn't calm. But after a while I got the hang out of it. Felt relaxing paddling alongside the coast. Even saw a seal checking me out.
It's big fun. Fore sure I am going to do this more often!

16th of August 2009 - World Windsurfing Day

Starboard - one of the biggest board brands in the windsurf industry - introduces the World Windsurfing Day upcoming August 16th 2009.

This is how it works: windsurfers worldwide are invited to head down the beach and introduce a friend or two to windsurfing. Your best mate, your girlfriend, your son, your daughter, your grandpa or your pet – share windsurfing with them on WWD 2009.

Starboard’s Brand Manager Tiesda You says:"More than 80% of active windsurfers today are windsurfing because their dad or a friend taught them. Growing windsurfing is as simple as that. So on the 16th of August, we’d like to invite the hundreds of thousands of windsurfers the world over to introduce windsurfing to friends and family. It’s simple virus theory: one cell becomes two, two becomes four, four becomes eight, and so on. It really is up to us to introduce windsurfing to those around us, and this is what WWD is all about. "

See you at the water on Sunday!

Heard about SUP already a lot on the internet and in the magazines. This week it was actually the first time that I saw some guys in action on the water in Scheveningen. My first impression: looked like a really fun sport. Definitely something I write down on my things-I-want-to-do-in-the-near-future-list.
